BioWavePENS is the only FDA-cleared Percutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (PENS) device indicated for treating chronic, acute or post-operative pain.
The BioWavePRO neurostimulator utilizes a unique high-frequency signal-mixing technology to deliver electrical signals through the skin directly to nociceptive pain fibers for inhibiting pain transmission and improving function. The signal technology is covered by U.S. and international patents. See TENS vs. PENS.
BioWave Percutaneous Electrodes are sterile, single-use and comprised of an array of over 1,000 needles within a 2.5-inch diameter patch. The needles are 0.74 mm in length and feel like Velcro to the touch. Percutaneous electrodes are implanted through the epidermis directly over locations that pain presents and/or over the origin of pain for the duration of the 30-minute treatment.
BioWave’s patented needle technology bypasses the impedance of skin and provides a conductive pathway for the delivery of the BioWavePRO therapeutic signals directly to nociceptive pain fibers in deep tissue. The percutaneous electrode allows an active therapeutic electrical field to form in a 3.5-inch diameter hemisphere beneath and surrounding each electrode. Doctors and patients report that BioWavePENS provides 3 times better efficacy and 3 times longer residual pain relief than with BioWave noninvasive electrodes.
Randomized controlled clinical studies for the treatment of chronic pain and postoperative pain have shown and patients report that BioWavePENS can be used to reduce pain and improve function including increased range of motion, decreased stiffness and reduction of muscle spasm for up to 72 hours following a single 30-minute treatment. These studies have also shown that BioWavePENS can significantly reduce the consumption of opioids and other pain medications.
BioWavePENS can be used to treat nociceptive as well as neuropathic pain in numerous locations including the lumbar and thoracic area of the back, cervical area of the neck, hip, groin, knee, shoulder, ankle, foot, elbow, wrist and hand. Physicians report excellent results treating chronic pain from nerve and musculoskeletal issues and postoperative pain. Athletic trainers report excellent results treating pain from neuritis, acute and chronic tendinopathies, ligamentous issues like joint sprains and trigger points.
